Olympic Fever

Not everyone (including myself) was lucky enough to get tickets for the London 2012 Olympics. So if I can’t go to the Olympics then I have decided I will bring the Olympics to me!

A Wild Time in Kenya

I’m looking into booking a safari holiday to Kenya. Home to some of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes such as the plains of Meru National Park and the legendary Masai Mara, Kenya really does have it all.

What is men's grooming?

Men's grooming isn't just about shaving and aftershave, it's about your hairstyle, the grooming kit you use, keeping good health and matching up with men's fashion and your own style. Mr D explains what you need to know about grooming and why it matters.

Weekend City Breaks

I’ve got a couple of much-needed days off after a hectic work schedule and before I have to fly out to Asia again on business I’ve decided to use this time wisely and book a long weekend break to unwind. All sounds great huh? But here is where the problem lies, I’m not too sure who I want to come with me…Terrible, I know.

As much as I love all of my friends, who I choose will determine what sort of weekend we have and right now, I’m not quite sure what I am in the mood for, so I emailed five of my nearest and dearest and asked them where they would like to go, if ‘hypothetically’ we were to go away. Here is what they emailed back:

We MUST go to Antwerp - it’s a fashion-lovers dream since the posh frocks of Dries van Noten put this Belgian city on the map. But the fashion doesn’t stop there - the ModeNatie building is home to the Flanders Fashion Institute and new fashion museum Momu. Once we’re done with the cultural side of things we can indulge in our favourite pastime – shopping! Apparently the Watler shop stocks cut-price outfits by up-and-coming designers. What is not to love?

Come on H, let’s go party! A long weekend should be spent in Serbia dancing into the small hours. The house music scene exploded in the capital in the 90's with the clubs going underground where the beat is still going on now! I recommend we head to the nightspots underneath Kalemegdan Castle or ask around at trendy bar Manhattan (Palmoticeva 27) for the latest happening venue.

Let’s get booking!

Darling H,

I’ve been meaning to contact you but I’ve been busy putting on a new exhibition. Why don’t we get away to Stockholm? I can take you to the The Moderna Museet, it has the largest collections of 20th-century works in Europe and it also has an excellent collection of Nordic sculpture. We could also head over to the Millesgarden sculpture park. The bronzes are amazing and the spectacular views of the city make for an impressive backdrop.

Thoughts? X

If there is one thing I can tell you about Hungary, then it’s that the locals certainly know a thing or two about staying fresh-faced and trim as they've had a sophisticated spa culture for hundreds of years –a million miles away from the scented candles and hefty price-tags we're used to, that is for sure! We could go the Gellert Baths and Spa for a bargain massage or if you prefer a more antique experience, there's the 16th-century Ottoman Kiraly baths; or we can join the locals playing chess in steaming pools at the Szechenyi Medicinal Spa and Swimming Pool.

Lots of love, Jane

Hello Miss,

GREAT to hear from you – Have you been to Rotterdam H? If not, let’s go! I love it, it’s such an iconic city for contemporary architecture - in fact it has been dubbed City of Architecture for 2007. The city's more iconic bridges and skyscrapers are brought to life via podcasts and this month is actually the perfect time to visit as the National Photography Museum opens in a new location with an architectural exhibition his month, something I am desperate to see.
Shall I look into booking flights?

Hello Miss H,

Sadly, I won’t be able to come away with you but my recommendation for your weekend away is New York. It has it all: great restaurants, bars, designer shopping and sight-seeing. Better yet, cheap flights make it affordable for a city break. I was there for a weekend in February, here are my insider tips.

Maybe we’ll catch up another time?

Mr D

ARGH! Even after all of these ideas, I’m still undecided. Maybe I could just book a two week holiday and go to all six cities. Problem solved!
