Driving an Alfa Romeo Giulietta

Cars. Gotta love 'em. Luxury marques or high-spec sports cars, driving a great car can be a sublime experience. So when I needed a hire car, I turned to a quality Italian marque, Alfa Romeo, and their Giulietta for some fun. Here's what happened.

A Wild Time in Kenya

I’m looking into booking a safari holiday to Kenya. Home to some of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes such as the plains of Meru National Park and the legendary Masai Mara, Kenya really does have it all.

Spa Treatments

January. Eurgh, I hate this month, it’s always disappointing, you’ve failed all of you resolutions by day three and it’s always around this time of year I start to crave a bit of pampering and I find it the perfect time to slip in a couple of days respite in glamorous surroundings. I’ve hunted down the most deliciously tempting spa treatments around the world, to chase away those January blues.

‘Inspired by the Americas’ Spa Experience at the Aman Spa, London

With therapists who practice daily meditation in order to better sense the needs of their clients, you’re in good hands. The Aman Spa at the Connaught Hotel’s extremely decadent two and a half hour ‘Spa Experiences’ are the last word in relaxation. The ‘Americas’ treatment uses old Navajo techniques to relax the body. Things kick off with a cleansing foot bath with sage and cedar, and continue with a red clay body wrap and river rock stone massage. The entire treatment works wonders for those who suffer from insomnia, as the techniques used are renowned for restoring normal sleep patterns. If you happen to drift off mid-treatment, make sure you stop by the hotel bar on your way out for an Espresso Martini to perk you back up.

The Emerald Ceremony at Amara Spa, Dubai

The Emerald Ceremony treatment at the Amara Spa at the Park Hyatt Dubai lasts two hours, and begins with a hand and foot rose petal bath in one of the luxury suite’s private outdoor terraces, which features a unique outdoor rainshower. While you relax, you’ll be able to select your own playlist for the rest of your experience.  Back in your suite, an aromatherapy body polish prepares the body for a seaweed bath and lymphatic drainage massage, before hot mud infused with oils is applied to induce maximum dispersion of toxins making this treatment ideal for weight control, meaning you can certainly have dessert in the hotel’s amazing restaurant later…

Africology African Potato Manicure at the Librisa Spa, Cape Town

If your hands are sore after pulling the corks out of all those bottles of Cape wine, treat yourself to this rather bizarre sounding anti-aging manicure at the Mount Nelson hotel’s Librisa Spa. An intense African Potato Mask, blended with pure African ingredients such as Rooibos, Aloe and Marula antioxidants is applied to ensure perfectly hydrated hands. And if that doesn’t take you over your carb limit for the day, the Africology potato experience comes in a full body wrap version too, and is especially soothing and effective for sun-damaged skin.

The Golfer’s Tonic at Sandy Lane, Barbados

It’s a hard life, swanning around the grounds of Barbados’s most celebrated resort. Should you show off your water-skiing skills, practice your backhand with the resident tennis professional or spend the day sunbathing. Either way, you’ll undoubtedly benefit from a little trip to the Sandy Lane spa at the end of the day, where a highly qualified therapist will administer the Golfer’s Tonic; a one and a half hour treatment comprising a deep tissue massage and the Enrich Foot Therapy.
Ideal for the sporty types, this is an extremely effective deep massage working on specific areas of tension, using black pepper and rosemary massage oil to help alleviate stress. This is followed by fabulous treatment for tired feet. And don’t let your lack of sporting prowess stop you – this is also a brilliant treatment to indulge in after a long flight.

So now all I need to do is book into one of these hotels and set aside some me-time. January? What January?
