Driving an Alfa Romeo Giulietta

Cars. Gotta love 'em. Luxury marques or high-spec sports cars, driving a great car can be a sublime experience. So when I needed a hire car, I turned to a quality Italian marque, Alfa Romeo, and their Giulietta for some fun. Here's what happened.

A Wild Time in Kenya

I’m looking into booking a safari holiday to Kenya. Home to some of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes such as the plains of Meru National Park and the legendary Masai Mara, Kenya really does have it all.

Travelling in style

I’ve come to the conclusion through travelling so much that I am never going to get an upgrade to first-class if I don’t sort out my travel accessories. As ridiculous as this may seem, I have noticed that regardless of my feminine wiles, the airport staff are never going to give me a second look at the check-in desk if I continue to use my battered suitcase and ancient dog-eared travel wallet. So it’s time to invest properly in luxe luggage and high-end holdalls. Here is my selection of the best luxury travel accessories for girls who want to turn left on the plane.

Suitcase

It’s time to invest in a decent leather holdall and head off for a weekend, pausing only to cram your new acquisition with the other recommended items on this list. My personal favourite is Lanvin’s Amalia Voyage leather suitcase. It is the last word in luxurious luggage and will make the most glamorous of getaway statements at departures.

Luggage tags

Your suitcase might now look the part but don’t fail at the luggage tag hurdle. A scribbled tag tied onto your bag with an elastic band just won’t cut it. Instead don’t let your luggage leave home without this Jimmy Choo dark-brown leather and animal-print calf hair luggage tag – guaranteed to keep your suitcase safe AND stylish.

Passport cover

It's not what's in your passport that counts, it’s the passport holder itself and nothing screams stealth wealth more than this Smythson passport cover from the Magenta Collection. With two subtly embossed pockets for a passport and boarding pass - a must for any jet-setter.

Travel wallet

The YSL Chyc Traveller Clutch will soon be the travel accessory you cannot jet away without. It really is as stylish as it is functional – there are individual compartments for your passport, boarding card and other documents as well as a zipped area for foreign currency. But the best thing is that it can also double-up as an evening clutch bag when you get to your destination. The perfect travel companion.

Sunglasses

They not only look cool but deter unwanted chit-chat. These Chanel Grey Tweed sunglasses are lightweight for 24/7 glamour – they’re the perfect accessory for any Mademoiselle.

Cashmere wrap

A well-travelled lady knows that it gets cold on the plane and is always prepared - with a cashmere wrap nonetheless! Bamford's cream cashmere blanket shawl is a cozy transatlantic cover-up. Drape this classic wrap nonchalantly around your shoulders or cocoon yourself in it for covetable first-class lounge chic.

Hang luggage

This black patent calf leather vanity case by Aspinal of London is the perfect carry-on, once you’ve dropped your luggage at check-in. Taking echoed inspiration from the golden age of glamorous travel, this elegant piece has adjustable leather straps to hold cosmetic bottles with plenty of extra room for all your flight essentials. The ultimate travel companion for the most discerning of ladies.

For a delayed flight

You’ve bagged the upgrade now be sure not to give the game away. If you’re delayed in the departure lounge, whip out a pack of Hermès silver-edged playing cards from your pumpkin-coloured Hermès playing card holder and suggest a quick hand of poker with your fellow travellers for a most decadent way to pass the time.

Now that I’ve invested in these pieces, I’m not sure I can now even afford a flight in economy!
