I've got a date later with a charming man called Sebastian. It's our third date to be exact and I'm beginning to really like him but there is one thing that is really bothering me about the whole situation...he hasn't tried to kiss me yet. Not even a peck on the cheek. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Zero. It's worrying.
And it is for this reason that I am walking around my local delicatessen right now, instead of getting my hair blow-dried. According to my mother, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, so in order to get myself some lip service - I need to seduce him with food.
And after a bit of research it would appear that not all foods are equal when it comes to love. Libido is closely linked to nutritional and antioxidant status and some foods contain more lust-boosting vitamins and minerals than others.
So, I have devised a menu based on this information which will hopefully fill him with enough sexy ingredients that he'll finally have the desire and the nerve to kiss me. Here is my food of love...
Starter: Oysters
Ah yes, good old oysters, the cliché of all aphrodisiac foods. But there is a good reason why oysters are known for their aphrodisiac qualities - they are super-high in zinc, which is needed for testosterone production. I'm hoping a dozen British Native Oysters will help shuck off his morals.
Main: Grilled tuna with a honey soy glaze
Tuna, apparently, contains vitamin B3 that has a blood dilating effect which in turn can increase the sense of touch. To double the effect of my second course I'm also making a honey soy glaze to accompany the fish. In ancient Persia, couples drank honey mead every day for a month after they married to get them in the mood for love (known as the honey month or honeymoon) because honey is rich in B vitamins needed for testosterone and stamina. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not asking for marriage, just for him to stay awake long enough to try and kiss me!
Dessert: Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream
According to the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago, vanilla is one of the fragrances found to be very effective in increasing blood flow. So that tub of Häagen-Dazs' finest in my freezer won't just be for my benefit!
And to Drink
As crude as it may sound, alcohol is also considered an aphrodisiac. It relaxes the body and reduces inhibition. So I've bought a bottle of Billecart-Salmon Rosé NV to hopefully help loosen-up Sebastian.
Right, I need to finish my shopping and get home to dress the side salads.
Hopefully after this meal, a splash of olive oil is the only dressing I'll be doing for a while...
