Driving an Alfa Romeo Giulietta

Cars. Gotta love 'em. Luxury marques or high-spec sports cars, driving a great car can be a sublime experience. So when I needed a hire car, I turned to a quality Italian marque, Alfa Romeo, and their Giulietta for some fun. Here's what happened.

Winter Skin

I'm currently on a business trip in Siberia and darn, it's cold. Seriously. I'm freezing and I've had to forgo all of my fashion morals and layer up - and I’m not just talking about my clothes. The darn cold weather has left my face with issues that even the most accommodating Hermès scarf can’t hide; dry skin, dull hair and eyes that feel as if they are trying to burrow back into my skull – all symptomatic of the drop in mercury. I’ve been so distraught I was even tempted to break out a balaclava to cover my poor visage. Thankfully my fashion sense prevailed and instead I've done some research and plan to go shopping later to pick up a cold weather repair kit. Next time I'm on a business trip in a cold climate I plan to stock my vanity case with the following products to make sure the elements don’t render me ugly (I mean, god forbid…).

Chapped lips

No woman should be robbed of kissable lips in cold weather and this luxury balm from Crème De La Mer will not only help maintain your perfect pout but it will also protect you from the scrofulous plague that is the cold sore. It also protects and helps relieve chapped or cracked lips as it contains a patented Lip Lipid Complex which delivers moisture and helps to prevent further damage. Pucker up…

Dull hair

Even on cold days, there's no need to condition every day (two to three times a week is optimum), but using a product to counter the drying effect of a biting wind can be a good idea, as when you get older your hair naturally loses its shine. Morrocanoil will put a nice sheen back on your hair without making it greasy – nice smelling, shiny, non-oily hair, you'll be a walking L'Oréal advert in no time.

Irritated eyes

Those of us who spend long hours staring at a monitor are long familiar with the jaded glaze that tends to descend post-lunch. And without the sunshine to warm some life back into tired eyes, the journey home can become even more painful than the zombified early-morning commute. To avoid that sunken feeling, try Blink Intensive Eye Drops, which can hold moisture in the eye for over 60 minutes, preventing irritation and providing protection against the cold weather. After a couple of drops, you'll be able to see every face in sharp focus again – and notice how much better your skin is looking than theirs.

Damaged skin

Skin Ceuticals Emollience Moisturiser is the Don Vito Corleone of facial skincare. It will reduce signs of cold-induced duress and pep your face up with a combination of vitamins and minerals. Slap it on and it’ll have you feeling like an updated new version of yourself in no time.

Missing nutrients

It’s not always easy to eat all of the essential nutrients in cold conditions (call the pizza delivery or brave the arctic tundra and hot-foot it to the supermarket? No contest really) thankfully, those clever people at Life Extension developed these SODzyme supplements. Popping one of these pills daily will help support your body’s defense against harmful free radicals that can accelerate the ageing process.

So there you have it, everything you need to keep your skin in check in the cold. Although don’t tell your boyfriend my skincare secrets, I mean a girl can never have too many Hermès scarves…
