From ultrabooks such as the Asus Eee Pad and tablets such as the new Amazon Kindle Fire, not to mention the rumoured iPad 3, smartphones such as the iPhone 5 and operating systems like Android 4, the latest technology will blow you away. Here's everything you need to know about the new electronics and gadgets heading your way in 2012.

This time last year, I was touting the gadgets which had changed my life in 2010 and the Top Technology 2011 - take a look to see how things panned out in 2011. Things have come a long way in just 12 short months.

I shared what it was like to live with an iPad in my iPad review, 3D Technology and Gadgets were huge in 2011, not to mention Home Cinema Set-ups and Home Audio Set-Ups, both of which are now hugely different. So what am I looking forward to in 2012? All of this:

1. iPhone 5 - Remember how disappointed we were in 2011 when Apple announced the new iPhone4S, not a totally redesigned iPhone 5? Sure, the camera was better and the new 'Siri' personal assistant sounded cool, but it looks like 2012 will be the year for a totally new iPhone. Expect a new casing, 4G capability and a super-fast processor.
2. iPad 3 - I love my iPad, but with rumours of an iPad 3 in late 2012, I'm due a serious upgrade. Expect a HD/high-def quality screen, additional connectivity like USB and SD ports and additional memory.
3. Android 4 - The Android operating system from Google is currently at 3.0 - 'Honeycomb'. The next is called 'Ice Cream Sandwich'. Behind the unusual name lies a single, more fluid, operating system for next-generation smartphones and tablets. Currently these differ between phones and tablets.
4. Windows 8 - The market-leading operating system's new release, Windows 8, is thinking even bigger - a new operating system to run across Xbox, desktops, smartphones and tablets. It features a snappy tile layout and means our computer tech will look very different in 2012.
5. Amazon Kindle Fire - It's already out in the US, but the Amazon Kindle Fire will reach the rest of us in 2012. An iPad-challenger, it's half the price, and a step up from the Kindle. A colour screen, video and digital magazine playback makes this hot property for 2012.
6. Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime - Forget the clunky name, this tablet, with remote keyboard, a great screen and extremely long (18 hours) battery life is being touted as the best tablet yet.
7. Playstation Vita - Sony are doing what they do best, with their new hand-held games console due out in 2012. With both analogue and touchscreen controls, Wi-Fi connectivity and a host of new games, this is the gaming device for 2012.
8. Wii U - Nintendo's next-generation console after the super-successful Wii is the Wii U. Due out sometime in 2012, the console features a tablet-like controller with its own screen, is HD and supports 3D.
9. Quad-core smartphones and tablets - Quad-core processors speed up media and gaming playback, as well as improving the overall speed as you tick through menu options - it's going to feature everywhere in 2012.
10. Ultrabooks - Think along the lines of the Macbook Air and you can imagine what's in the pipeline for 2012 - thinner, lighter, uber-cool ultrabooks which bridge the gap between tablets and laptops.
